BALAGANGADHAR THILAK

Born- 23.07.1856, Death – 01.08.1920
He was called as “Lokmanya”
Lokmanya – accepted by the people
He was the first one to proclaim “Swaraj is my Birth right and i will attain it”.
He was called as “Thilak Maharaja” because he was got over whelming support from people as he was the firt one to give awarness in indian freedom struggle.
He published two journals Maratha(English) Kesari(Marathi)
1889- Enrolled himself in congress
1893- He conducted Ganapathi festivel to encourage National sprit among indians.
1895- Conducted Shivaji festivel, The unity created by him gave setback to British peoples.
1907- He was the leader of Extremist wing of INC at the surat Split.
1908- He was sent to mandlay prison as he supported kudhiram bose and Prafulla Saki in Muzzafarpur Conspiracy case as they threw a bomb on. Douglas Kingsford Magistrate but unfortunately kennedy and family were killed. This incident created a tragic wave all over British india.
But Thilak praised them in his journal “kesari”. He was sentenced to prison in Burma mandalay prison.
1914- After being released from mandalay prison he started Home rule league in Pune.
He went to every village in india ntom Spread the freedom seed in indians and went to England in 1919 to meet the labour party leaders about indian freedm.
1920- In july he was bed ridden due to ill health and died on Aug 01.British officer valentine Chirol called him as Father of Indian Unrest.
Who demanded Complete swaraj.
